Fellowship is more than just a chat over a cup of tea!
Our purpose is to bring those connected to The Salvation Army at Chatham into a closer understanding of God and to help make non-members feel welcome. The programme will help everyone to develop a deeper faith and assist people to become members of our church.
The team is currently headed by Sam Wood.
We have a number of enthusiastic members who have many ideas to fulfil our aims and we have already set up an informal walking group which will encourage people to join in a gentle stroll around Kent s lovely countryside and spend time talking with each other. As with all our events, they are open to members of the church and non-members alike. Indeed, we hope that every member will bring a friend to enjoy the warm fellowship.
Recently we enjoyed a guided tour around the east end of London to discover the places of interest connected to the early days of The Salvation Army. Our experienced guide brought a wealth of knowledge about the area and the various buildings, some of which are still standing, and we finished at the cemetery where William and Catherine Booth are buried.
To assist those who are new to The Salvation Army, and Chatham Corps in particular, we have produced a Welcome Leaflet giving some background details to both the Army and Chatham Corps itself. Included are details of all the weekly activities, contact telephone numbers and a plan of the premises!
As a team, we are conscious of the fact that there are few opportunities to meet together socially and are planning regular events throughout the year where we can all share in fellowship with one another; building friendships and getting to know the people we worship with, and those people within our community. We have three events planned this year (2008) the first being a family quiz in January followed by a fun day in the park in May, with the last event being held in October with a relaxed cafe style evening service with a guest speaker.
There is no set membership of the group as everyone is welcome to come along with their ideas and enthusiasm. You might have just the inspiration that we need to help us in the work of the Fellowship Group.
