Desert Island Discs 16

This weeks Desert Island Disc choices were made by Songster Leader Carolynn Woodman

Selecting my 3 songs for our Desert Island Discs has proved to be a really challenging task!
I think the lyrics mostly speak for themselves but all three songs move me to tears and bless me every time I hear them.
My first choice is The Lord’s Prayer (arranged by Len Ballantine- one of my favourite composers/arrangers/vocalists). I first sang this arrangement under his leadership at a Territorial Music School and then, years later, conducted it with NChant. It’s fairly simple (musically) yet the message profound.

From 8 ‘12” mins , you will see/hear the performance of The Lord’s Prayer

My second choice is a secular piece but I feel that God’s gift of music can still be used to draw people closer to him. The first time I heard this was a performance by Kent’s senior county choir. They sang it around the perimeter of the auditorium and I sat (as an audience member) and let this wash over me. I literally wept at its beauty. Sleep by Eric Whitaker.

My final choice is a song I was first introduced to when singing it with the International Staff Songsters (we have also sung it with our own brigade too). Every time I used to sing this with the ISS, I was moved. It speaks of the gospel simply…It Must Be Love.
