Scripture Reading I Samuel 17: 20-31
Following the Bible reading we watched the 2nd Self Denial Video
and following this the Songsters sang ” Say Yes To Him ”
Major Ian read the words of Song 429 Just outside the land of Promise
JUST outside the land of promise
You have waited many years,
And your life has been o’erclouded
With a host of haunting fears.
There is victory in Jesus,
Come to him without delay;
Seek just now a full salvation
And the voice of God obey.
To redeem and make you holy
Jesus left his throne above;
Now believe and take the blessing,
Nothing less than perfect love.
2 You have long been hesitating,
Hindered by your unbelief,
And your wilful disobedience
Oft has caused you bitter grief.
Stay no longer on the threshold,
Now believe and enter in;
Claim through Christ complete deliverance
From the slavery of sin.
3 Though you know your sins forgiven,
Greater things await you still;
Freedom here from sin’s dominion,
Power to do the Master’s will.
Fear no longer, he is with you,
Let no foe your steps arrest;
Seek today the Father’s blessing,
Enter now the land of rest.
The Message ‘Your Giants’ Major Ian F Payne
We heard the last extract from today’s Bible verse 1 Samuel 17: 32 -58
Major Ian reminded us that David had been previously anointed and equipped by God ,and we also considered the frosty relationship David had with his brothers . With thoughts of the new Corps being established in Burkina Faso ( see Videos ) , and the Giants they had to overcome starting the work in a new country , Major Ian reflected that fear is one of Satan’s greatest weapons, and if we don’t have God in our lives , what do we have in it’s place. Face your Giants in your life with God beside you
The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of our two final songs
Song 459 God Forgave my Sin
Tune 621 Freely, Freely
Song 987 We are marching on
Tune 644 Happy Song

‘Chatham SA striving in 2020 for 2020’
Welcome to Chatham Salvation Army, a Christian fellowship where we are attempting to bring ‘Christ to people and people to Christ’.
Good morning and welcome to worship today. I trust that most of you managed to escape any damage to your property due to storm Ciara. What a challenge it has been for so many over the past weekend and The Salvation Army have responded in help and support in many communities across the UK.
This morning I am considering thoughts under the heading ‘Your Giants’. Whilst in Florence recently I was captivated by the statue of David, the young, strong, simple shepherd boy who said ‘Yes’ when the challenge was thrown down. Not sure I would have said ‘yes’ but God used his ‘yes’ and is still teaching stories through the phrase “David and Goliath”, denoting an underdog situation – a contest where a smaller, weaker opponent faces a much bigger, stronger adversary. Also, it can involve a personal challenge to us spiritually in our walk with God. So, let us this morning face the challenge of that ‘giant’ in our life spiritually and come out victorious for God.
A reminder today at 9:45am, I with my Leadership Team will be in the Bradbury Room praying for the meeting. You are welcome to join us.
God Bless Chatham Corps as we worship in Spirit and in Truth
God Bless you all
Ian F Payne – Major
Please pray this prayer:
Father God, I pray for my church today, that you will fill each of us with your joy and peace, and that, in our worship, our fellowship and mission, we will overflow with hope, by the power of your Holy Spirit, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Your prayers are needed for all those in our Corps fellowship. There are many who have health/age related problems and others who are finding life difficult at the moment.
Please highlight this week those who will be depending on our giving in our Self Denial Altar Service. We think of those whose lives are blighted by lack of housing, food and water.
Please pray for all the children who come to our Corps building for activities on Sunday and during the week that they may feel this is a safe and holy place.
Prayer requests can be put in the Prayer Box at the back of the Hall. They will be added to the prayer book and prayed for on Friday.
Please use the Prayer Book upstairs in the Prayer corner to list any specific prayer requests.
We are grateful to Marjory and Bev Hudson for the flowers which adorn our hall. (Thanks to Joan for arranging them). Please add your name to the list of dates on the notice-board if you wish to donate flowers.
