Introduction to thoughts and united Bible reading: Psalm 23

Major Judith referred to Psalm 23 as a good old friend full of truth and encouragement , and she also  commented that John 10:10 is a key verse in her work

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Major Judith talked about what stops us living life to its fullness .

Message                         Major Judith M Payne

Verses 2&3  of Psalm 23 were described as what God wants to do for us

    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake

As for V4 this was described  us talking to God

Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me

Major Judith went on to say that although we still will go through the deep dark places , we must always remember that with the Shepherd leading us , this is not the end of the journey, God always has plans for our future .

Verse 5 shows Gods provision

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

Verse 6 shows that wherever you go in life  Gods love & goodness follow us ( even if we are not taking any notice of him)

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

1st was Joan West, who testified that she was encouraged to meet six people at a recent wedding, all who she had got to know through her prison ministry, and all who were working and making their way in life .

2nd was Major Estelle Clack , who testified that in the two years she has been leading the CAMEO group , she has invited many people to come and share about their lives , including one person who felt that they had been passed over for jobs at work due to Salvationist  beliefs, but in time  his beliefs were respected

The 4th testimony was from Peter Willard  who has returned to the high st ministry after a break of two years, and he was blessed by the conversations he had , and the positive response he received ..This included two separate conversations ,which were very personal and were both linked back to  WW2 ..

The Band Message this evening  was from a 1967 Eric Ball piece called Serenity , written to go with the words written by Horatio Spafford ( song 741) , who wrote the words following the tragic loss of his 5 children, 4 of them died when the ship they were on sank crossing the Atlantic. Spafford was not with them at the time as he was delayed in America. He was inspired to write the words to ” it is well with my soul” as the ship he eventually returned to England on, was passing the spot that the earlier ship had sunk..

To all Officers & Salvationists I have a “big ask” and here it is .

Pray as never before for those who lead;Pray for an even greater opportunity for the mission; pray the Jabez prayer for the SA & believe that God is going to do a new thing; pray thy Kingdom come ; pray that in all we do his name will be honoured and glorified ; and pray earnestly that you fully fulfil your intended place in the march forward

Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!
