Junior Soldiers Day of Renewal 2018

Our morning meeting today was a special one, led by Junior Soldier Sergeant Sam Wood.

 Sam

This meeting was the time for all our Junior Soldiers to renew their promises. The Theme was  ” Who are you Listening to? ” and began with an example of how we can get distracted listening to advice from too many sources

Julie & Mia  playing a game, and getting disrupted by Martin & others, and showing how distracted we can get

The first song of the morning was ” Blessed be the name of the Lord ” introduced by Hannah

We had an opening Prayer by Sam Boughton. and the announcements  were given by Mia

The congregation was involved in a game of Chinese whispers to help show how important it is to listen, and this was followed by  the worship song ” I am listening to God”.

The Singing company , led by Emma Davis,  gave us  ” The Fathers Song”

 introduced by Sian Sutton

The Junior soldier Bronze award was presented by Major Ian to Robert Christie

This was followed by a Testimony from Isaac Woodman , which is an element of a Junior Soldiers Platinum award

The next item was the Song ” Oceans” given to us by the Junior Soldiers youth group

The Bible reading was delivered by Marin Castle , and he read John 10 v1-10 .

The Good Shepherd and His Sheep

10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

We had a game of follow my leader next , where initially Isaac Woodman declared himself the leader of a Game ( Simon Say’s)  but others kept butting in ! creating havoc & confusion

The YP Band contribution was introduced by Chantelle

and the tune was  ” Joyful Peace ”

The next item we had was the Song ” Sanctuary” introduced by Robert Christie ,

and following this Sam Wood delivered her message for the morning . Sam spoke about the need to find a quiet place to listen to God , because it is difficult hear him among the noise of all the distractions around us , and its sometimes hard to work out who to follow.

Sam  referred back to Martins Bible reading of John 10 1-10 earlier, saying we need to listen intentionally, and asking us how we hear from God, and are we finding the time ?.

The Junior Soldiers then recited their Promise ( in fact we were all invited to do this as well)

‘I know that Jesus is my Saviour from sin.
I have asked him to forgive my sins, and I will trust him to keep me good.
By his help, I will be his loving and obedient child, and will help others to follow him.
I promise to pray, to read my Bible, and to lead a life that is clean in thought, word and deed.
I will not use anything that may injure my body or my mind, including harmful drugs, alcohol and tobacco.’

The congregation were asked to pick up a named label from the stand , and promise to pray for the that child for a year.

during this time the Junior Soldiers met with their ” Big Buds” and had a time of prayer

The Closing Song was ” Lord I lift your name on High ” and this was introduced by Grace.

Very well done to Sam & her team, to all the Junior Soldiers, and all those that support them

The report for the 4 pm meeting , which was led by the Band will follow tomorrow
