Suffering church

With permission we again bring extracts from Spiral Magazine (January 2018 issue) published by the Parish of South Gillingham.

The start of a new year generally gives rise to optimism and hope for a better year than the last. For many Christians and millions of others, the impending defeat of Islamic State in the Middle East offers the chance to return and rebuild their lives. For others in Africa and Asia, persecution is on the rise

May our ‘New Year resolution’ be to remain faithful in prayer and ask God’s help for them in the year ahead  – See 2 Corinthians Chapter 1 v 10 and 11.

Iraq / Syria:  Praise God that in many refugees camps across the region, Christians are continuing to provide adults and children with food, trauma therapy and schooling via satellite TV. Please pray that everyone who suffered trauma or injury at the hands of IS will recover from what they have witnessed, be healed and be able to return home soon.

Vietnam:  Praise God that the printing and distribution of a new Children’s Bible has been completed. Please pray that they will make the transforming love of God known to many children across the country.

Kazakhstan:  Baptist preacher Yklas Kabduakasov (56), was released from prison on the 2nd of October.  He was convicted in August 2015 of religious extremism and illegal distribution of religious materials, and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment in a labour camp for ‘inciting religious hatred’.  Yklas returns home to a wife and eight children, including a new baby who was born after his arrest. Please pray that Yklas’s health will recover from his time in the labour camp and for help as he adjusts back to normal life.
