The Salvation Army Chatham

Last Saturday evening was spent enjoying some great memories from former years and saw the return of a number of those who were ‘juniors’ or workers here to join in the celebrations.

They were all young once!

The evening began with a series of choruses formerly used by the children which included ‘I am a C’, ‘All in a row, singing we go’ and ‘The wise man built his house upon the rock’. The ‘old’ timbrels (see above) played to the march ‘The Red Shield’, a one time timbrel favourite, before Jean Jones interviewed Rita Broomfield and Cyril Adams about their experiences of years gone by.

This was a weekend to remember as we celebrated 100 years of our Young People’s hall and said goodbye to our current building in its present form.

The planned speaker for Ladies Fellowship on Monday was unable to come but the meeting went ahead as usual and people were asked to bring something of interest to share.

The Parent and Toddler Groups were the first to say good-bye to the Young Peoples hall when they met for a party last Friday.

Well, the days remaining before we move out of our building for the best part of a year are now very few. Next Sunday is the last before we relocate. Major Andrea is still at the International College for Officers and another of her blogs is due this week. Watch this space.

Last weekend eight ladies from Chatham travelled to the Salvation Army’s conference centre at Sunbury Court for the annual ‘Liberate’ get together organised by Maureen Ross, Divisional Family Officer for the London South East Division. Sue Willard has sent us her thoughts on what seems to hae been a most enjoyable time.
