Youth Councils 2009
Attending Youth Councils for the first time this year, Jessica Boughton had a great time. Here are her impressions.
On Sunday 1st of November the Chatham youth group travelled to a school in Maidstone for Youth Councils. Many corps made an effort to come including Maidstone themselves, Bexleyheath, Hastings and many more. At first we met with old friends and then were led in worship by the worship band. We sang some new and interesting songs which were followed by an inspiring sermon led by Andrea Sawyer about the roof in life and how we need to break through to be the better followers of God.
After this we had a choice of activities to do over three periods. Some of the activities corps football where all the corps went against each other. There was also a samba festival drumming session with lots of different beats and rhythms that just made you want to dance along. There was a chill lounge where you could purchase hot chocolates to keep you warm on the chilly and wet day.
Amid all the chaos we had a relaxing lunch when a lot of yummy food was shared like sausage rolls! We also had dinner after period three before we all got together for evening worship also led by the worship band. This time the sermon was given by Mark Sawyer and sermon was about how the mother eagle is like Jesus and we are her children. One example was when the chick is learning to fly the mother will nudge her children out of the nest. They will then fall and because eagles live so high the child will not fall to his or her death because the mother will fly under the chick and catch it before it dies. This is like God when we are pushed out of our comfort zone. All in all I really enjoyed my first visit to Youth Councils as it was enjoyable and I loved meeting new people and I’m definitely going next year!
