Summer School 08
Daisie Tranah gives her impressions of her very first Summer School run by London South East Divisional Headquarters.
This was my first Summer School that I have attended since belonging to The Salvation Army. I was nervous about going and wasn’t expecting to make many friends. How wrong I was! The week was amazing and everybody was so ‘chummy’.
I picked two different specialisms out of sport, media, brass, vocal, dance, alternative worship, drama and leadership. My choices were dance and alternative worship. I didn’t imagine that I would feel so welcome in my groups and I was surprised how much of a team we became in just 8 days; we felt a real sense of unity
I explored areas of alternative worship that I have never taken part in before and we, as a band, led worship on numerous occasions, my contribtion being playing my flute and singing. I was also surprised how many students were enthusiastic about dance and how they could move their bodies for the Lord.
My highlight of the week was when we were asked if anybody needed praying for because the Holy Spirit came and touched everybody in the room. It was miraculous. The next night Will was painting a picture. Just seconds after he had finished a lightning storm came and it looked just like the picture. It was breathtaking!
So, what did I learn from the week which would help me to improve my life with God? I learned that everything I do I should do for God and how to carry that out. The Holy Spirit was present throughout the week and I was so pleased to have been there.
