Against All Odds
Divisional Children’s Week for 8 – 12 year olds.
Vinehall School, Robertsbridge
It was once again the time for Divisional Children’s Camp 2010, writes Vanessa Robinson. The theme for the week was “Against All Odds”. The week started with all the children arriving on the Monday and having a picnic with their families and settling into their rooms, meeting friends and making new friends.
Each morning commenced with watching clips from the film Champions (1984). The story is about Bob Champion who suffered from cancer but recovered to win the Grand National. We also looked at Moses, David and Goliath, Joshua and the battle of Jericho and finally Peter. All these people where up against some really big barriers, but with God’s love, the children learnt that they were able to overcome these obstacles.
There were plenty of fun games and activities throughout the week, for example sports relay races with twists involved, team challenges, swimming, craft, creating dens, disco, camp fire and many many more activities.
There was also an activity called Electives that ran every morning, Timbrels, Drama, Choir, Brass and Creative writing. The children had already selected their Elective before arriving at camp in order to give Leaders time to prepare. The children then played their timbrel item, drama, choir or brass item during the final celebration on Saturday in front of family and friends.
And last but not least, the food. Plenty of it. Three cooked meals a day enjoyed by all.
Staff members from Chatham were Vanessa Robinson and Luke Tranah and the children included Bethany, Elsa, Chloe, Jamie, Mitchell, Daniel and Joseph. The week was organised by Divisional Children’s Officer Kathryn Doncaster.
