The Salvation Army Chatham

Vic and Val Smith renewed their wedding vows on Sunday afternoon in the presence of family and many friends including members of The Salvation Army.

Thirty four years ago the couple were married in a local Register Office but now Val has become a Christian and wanted to renew her vows in church and with Christian friends present. Major Drew McCombe conducted the ceremony and was assisted by Theresa Tranah, Ray Knapman, Sarah Lockwood and Jean Jones.

Val’s love of children led to an unusual choice of song to begin the ceremony. The corps children, along with some teachers and older ‘kids’, helped the congregation to sing ‘Our God is a great big God‘ complete with actions (see pictures below).

Having led Vic and Val in renewal Major Drew spoke briefly on 1 Corinthians 13 and the service concluded with the song ‘Love Divine, all loves excelling‘.
