Jesus & Us
Chatham Songsters presented a musical evening at Gillingham Methodist Church last Saturday following the theme of ‘Jesus & Us’.
Dividing the programme into for sections the evening began with ‘Praise His Holy Name’, reflecting ‘God the Father’, and continued with ‘I miss my time with you’ and a song for audience participation (To God be the Glory). Each section of the programme contained a number of readings depicting Jesus’ birth, preaching, teaching, death, resurrection and Pentecost. Jesus the Son included ‘Mary did you know’, ‘Then will the very rocks cry out’, ‘They could not’ (Soloist Rachel Horwood), ‘God so loved the World’ and ‘Radiant Lord, majestic Christ’. The Holy Spirit was represented by just one song, ‘Church on Fire’. Emma Davis was featured as a pianoforte soloist during the first half of the programme performing the first movement of Beethoven’s Sonata No 14 in C sharp minor (Moonlight).
An important part of the evening was a period of fellowship with local church members and visitors which took place during the interval and the final section of the programme, focused on Us began with ‘We have a Mission’ (again featuring Emma, this time as a vocalist). Songster Leader Adrian Horwood provided the Euphonium solo ‘Travelling Along’ and Deputy Songster Leader Carolynn Woodman conducted the group in ‘He’s the Lily’ and ‘Everybody Sing Praises’. The evening was brought to a conclusion with the singing of ‘Know my Heart’ and With wings as Eagles.
The audience of approximately 100 people enjoyed and good evening of Christian music and fellowship. Pictured below are Songster Leader Adrian Horwood, Deputy Songster Leader Carloynn Woodman and Accompanist Carole Horwood.
