Fighting Poverty Through Trade

The Ladies Fellowship gathered for their April meeting on Monday with the guest speaker being Lesley Allsopp from Traidcraft.   As you will see from the photographs below, Lesley set up a display/sales table of Traidcraft Fair Trade goods – mainly edible.

Lesley told of her experiences in getting the message across to businesses and the public of the need to purchase goods that were fairly traded – the people who made them being paid the proper price for their work.   She explained the Christian basis to Traidcraft and told her own story.    For more details about Traidcraft click here.

Verna Smith read a thank you letter from Blythswood Care for the shoeboxes which had been donated to their charity.   It was agreed that we should again provide some shoeboxes for ladies for this Christmas and were encouraged to start collecting now.

Heather Woodhouse gave the epilogue which she based on the mentions in the Bible of craftsmen, linking this to the Creator of the world.
