Medway Towns Prayer Guide
OCCASIONAL PRAYER BULLETIN
This is now received regularly by email to the website and the latest is published here for information. Please support with prayer.
“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16
This occasional email prayer bulletin supplements the Medway Towns Prayer Guide (we are looking to produce a new edition of the colour fold-up Guide in January 2010) and is intended to inform and encourage a prayer response (appropriate to you) to current situations in Medway and highlight opportunities for Christians from across the whole Medway church to agree or meet together in worship and prayer for the life and folk of the Medway Towns.
Churches Together in Medway: Pray for the AGM to be held on Mon 2 Nov at Emmaus Church Centre, Clover Street, Chatham from 7.30 pm (all welcome to attend). Pray also for the ministerial vacancies across the Towns to be filled quickly by ministers who come to us with a clear calling to, and love for, the area as a whole. Further details from the CTIM Chairman, Richard Alford on 01634 315135 or richard@rabbitwarren.org.uk . Please also pray for the planned GSUS bus outreach to Medway’s secondary schools in 2010, for connections with the schools and the necessary support workers to be in place, more details from Richard as above.
Ward Prayer: Tue 3 Nov: Christians living in Rochester South and Horsted ward are invited to attend a prayer meeting for the life of their ward to be held at St Stephen’s Church, Huntsman’s Corner, Chatham between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm. This is a new (and untried!) prayer initiative aimed at linking Christians with their immediate geographic neighbours irrespective of tradition just to pray for the area where they all live. Please contact Trevor Clarke on 01634 409932 or trevoraclarke@blueyonder.co.uk for further details.
Schools: Tue 17 Nov provides an opportunity to pray for Medway’s schools on the European PrayDay for Schools (www.prayday.eu). Facilitated in Medway by The Family Trust, it will start promptly at noon in the foyer of Gillingham Methodist Church, Third Avenue, Gillingham, ME7 2LU and end at 12.30 pm. You must contact the Family Trust on 01634 281158 or medway@familytrust.org.uk if you are planning to attend for important further details. Just at the human level there is such a vast amount of change occurring within Medway’s schools with 3 secondary academies being established including the area’s first Church of England secondary school, proposals for 16 infant and junior schools to be amalgamated circulating, 2 schools planned for closure and the new 14-19 diploma programme being introduced.
Medway Worship Jam: Sat 28 Nov: open to all musicians and singers from local churches at Rainham School For Girls, Derwent Way, Gillingham from 8.00 pm. Those wishing to just join in and worship as part of an informal congregation are also most welcome to come along too (refreshments served in the interval). Further details from Robin How at robin@robinhow.com or see http://www.jamminforjesus.co.uk. Medway is quite unique in having this forum for worship folk to come together in an informal way to praise God and learn from each other’s styles, if you are connected in any way with the worship at your church please do contact Robin to see how you can be involved. Robin is an elder at New Life Community Church.
Other occasions to hold in prayer this month:
Tue 10 Nov: Standing Advisory Committee for Religious Education (SACRE) meet, the local authority body responsible for religious education and collective worship in Medway’s schools.
Thu 12 Nov: Medway Council meets at St George’s Centre 7 pm. Meeting is open to the public for any who wish to observe and pray (silently!) for the decision making processes of the Towns.
Tue 17 Nov: Community Safety Partnership, an invitation only event to stakeholders from public, private and voluntary sectors from each of the 22 wards in Medway looking at crime and anti-social issues across the Towns.
Grace and peace.
