About the leader….

The Gospel Choir, recruited from our local community, meets for its first rehearsal on Friday (11 September). We shall be following its progress towards the Carol Concerts at Chatham’s Central Theatre (28 November) with interest.

Director of the choir will be Wesley Carroll, a Salvationist in Hythe where he leads the local Salvation Army group (Songsters), provides piano accompaniment for the services and directs the Shepway Gospel Choir. His taste for music has led to a wide experience in the orchestral, choral and media fields as well as his Christian faith. Having composed and arranged music he has also performed in the UK, USA and Europe. He is currently employed as the Director of Performing Arts at the Towers School and Sixth Form Centre in Ashford, Kent.

Wesley believes that singing has a magical quality which means any collection of people, coming together to sing, can, if they are enthusiastic and willing to learn, sound amazing. He says I would rather have wrong notes with bags of style, commitment and enthusiasm that moves and connects with the audience than a note perfect performance with no style and excitement. He accepts that this may be controversial but truly believes it.

Why not check out Wes’s views at The Central Theatre on 28 November (3pm or 7pm). Click here to book on line. Select ‘Nativity – the word on the street’ from the quick buy menu and choose your preferred performance time.
