2 New Evangelism Courses
“Thank God for Alpha,” say the creators of The Y Course. But what about people who aren’t even close to asking about Christianity or Jesus?
Promising “no pressure, no question off-limits and no cucumber sandwiches”, The Y Course begins with questions about life, not Christianity. It assumes that people are unfamiliar with the Christian story and suspicious towards church and institutional faith. “We start with issues that people struggle with, like why so much suffering and what’s the point of so many religions?” says course co-creator Peter Meadows, associate executive director at Bible Society. Joseph Steinberg, the other half of the creative team, explains: “We spend a lot of time exploring what God must be like. Otherwise, to the contemporary mind, it means little to speak of Jesus as God.”
John Mills will be running this 8 week course starting on Monday 7 September at 1.30pm and hopes that some of the men who come to the Monday lunch will be interested.
Starting on Wednesday 16 September is the next Alpha Course with Drew, Paul, Ruth and Rod again leading.
Ever wondered what it’s all about? Over 2 million people in the UK and 13 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day away.
