A Time for Building
A letter to the Corps from Majors Drew and Beverley McCombe, recently published in our Corps magazine ‘Vision’, said:
This is a time for building; God is building his kingdom in the lives of individuals, we are building links into our community, and very soon work will start on our building to make it more suitable for everything that we believe God wants us to do.
We continue to celebrate God’s blessing upon us, building up his kingdom through new people making links with the corps and considering membership. At the beginning of July we will be enrolling two new soldiers, five others are about to commence recruits’ classes and children continue to become Junior Soldiers.
We have been praying about developing work in our community and God seems to be opening up opportunities for us to partner with other community agencies. Recently we have housed the Turning Point charity, which provides personal care plans for those caught up in addiction. This links to our work on a Monday lunchtime with the homeless. We have been approached by Endeavour Foyer, which is supported housing for young people aged 16-23, to help with life skills training, accredited with Mid-Kent College. Shortly we will be having conversations with a sub-group of the homelessness forum to explore how we can further develop our work in this area.
It seems that in preparation for all of this we need to push on with the proposed building developments. The first phase (Cafe/Foyer) is due to commence work mid-July, and we are waiting for the exact date from the contractor. This will mean that on Sundays we will be out of our main hall, and tentative plans have been made with Fort Pitt Grammar School, to use their main hall for Sunday morning worship and with Emmaus Church for Sunday evenings. For mid-week activities the secondary hall, platform and back rooms will still be usable.
Thank you for who you are and what you contribute to buildĀing up the kingdom. Please continue to pray that God will be continually amongst us, building us up, leading us out into the community, and that we will see the river of his grace and presence flowing from all we are and do.
God bless
Drew and Beverley
