World Wide Prayer Event

Residents of Medway were able to see and hear more than 500 church members lined up along the top of the Great Lines overlooking the towns on the last Sunday of May as part of the Global Day of Prayer.

Previously, the congregation, which came from many churches throughout Medway, had met in a tent erected for the Pentecost weekend celebrations, for a two hour time of prayer and worship. One significant moment came at the praying for the Bishop of Rochester, The Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali, after he had given one of his last sermons in Medway before leaving his appointment to work once again in Pakistan.

“Line of Fire” was the title given to the weekend and was the idea of Reverend Peter Marchant of Inn Christian Ministries and linked in with the Global Day of Prayer held all over the world on the same day. The afternoon worship included the congregation splitting into four groups around and outside the tent to pray out loud for the four points of the compass representing the different parts of the Medway Towns. Following the sound of a trumpet blast everyone lined up along the ridge to join in responsive prayers for the salvation of the people of the towns. This sound of prayer was sufficiently loud to be heard by two Salvationists near the Salvation Army hall in Chatham, a distance of over half a mile!

Praying for Medway was a privilege for all who gathered there and each of the churches is committed to carrying on the work of bringing the message of God’s love and salvation to those people who live in their communities.
