Monday Spot (16 February 2009)

Karl and Rachel Carpenter, the Cadets who have been leading our meetings today, have now heard that they are to be appointed to the Poplar Corps after their commissioning.    We celebrate with them and wish them every success on their appointment.

Karl and Rachel Carpenter

As for to-day, they have led our meetings based on the Scripture Matthew 10:5-13 with the theme in the morning ‘It’s over to you’ and this evening ‘What’s over to you’.    The morning meeting began with the reading, by Rachel, of Psalm 145: 1-13 and songs included Song 184SoF 1498 and Song 734.   The music ministry was by the Singing Company and Songsters who sang ‘Wonderful Jesus’ and ‘Come to Me’. Karl’s message stressed the fact that Jesus gave the disciples responsibility to go and do what He had been doing.   He asked how it affected us to-day. We need to be telling the message to repent because the Kingdom of Heaven is near.  Preaching and healing go together as well as loving our neighbour.   We need to show people Jesus.   We have no excuses, like no building or equipment.   We need to tell the message.   Go just as we are to wherever our Israel is.   People won’t care how much you know, only how much you care.

The evening meeting included Song 8, SoF 379, SoF 496and Song 334 and began with Psalm 96:1-10 although the main scripture used was Matthew 10:5-13.   The Songsters sang ‘Without you’ and the Band played the hymn tune arrangement ‘Lord, with my all I part’.   There were five testimonies praising God and thanking Him for His goodness.   In Karl’s message he drew special attention to what the kingdom of Heaven is all about.    A kingdom has a ruler and in the Kingdom of Heaven it is God’s rule.   There are many descriptions of the Kingdom of Heaven in the Bible but the most important thing to realise is that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us and if He reigns then our actions will show it.   The question is ‘Are we willing to let Him reign?

Before next week-end our No. 1 Soldier on the roll, Mrs. Dorothy Read, celebrates her 100th birthday.  We will keep you posted.

Have a blessed week and may you feel God’s presence with you.
