SA Pilgrimage in Rochester Cathedral
Our Wednesday Bible Study group met last week at Rochester Cathedral for a guided pilgrimage. Major Beverley McCombe reports as follows:
We had a great evening in Rochester Cathedral with a tour led by Canon Philip Hesketh. This was a tour with a difference, using the cathedral for our own spiritual benefit. As we entered the dimly lit cathedral, by the west door and saw the brightly lit altar, the destination of our journey, through the narrow entrance in the screen, it spoke very powerfully to us of our own spiritual journey. Various features of the cathedral including a wall constructed of different textured stones, the pilgrim steps, the shrine of William of Perth, an ornately carved stone doorway, the crypt and the high altar were used to speak to us, and move us to repentance and prayer. We encountered God in many ways – thank you to Philip for a great evening.
