Mary, did you know……?

This was the title of the song, sung beautifully by Paul Woodhouse, which brought a powerful conclusion to the carol concert presented by a cast and support team of over 100 people in Chatham’s Central Theatre.

Mary, did you know……?

Almost 1000 people joined with The Salvation Army in following the format of television’s ‘Treasure Hunt’ as they were taken on a journey ‘Around the World in 80 Minutes’ (well. give or take a few!). With its very own version of ‘Annie’, played by Tracy Wood, and a studio crew comprising Robert, Margaret and David, visits were made to the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Puerto Rico and Tonga before travelling back in time to the town of Bethlehem where the clues led to the discovery of the event which changed the course of history, the birth of Jesus.

Throughout the journey items by the corps’ music groups, soloists and presenters brought a flavour of the traditions and customs of the countries visited. Special guests were the children of the Featherby Infants School choir, led by Christine Lockwood. The children gave a beautiful performance of three Christmas songs in the simple and enthusiastic way that only children can.

Major Drew McCombe invited those present to participate in their own ‘treasure hunt’ to discover the greatest gift the world has ever known, that of the presence of Jesus in the human life. Members of the cast were available for prayer with any who wished to remain after the concert.
