Joyce Mary Cooke

Older members of the corps may remember Joyce, who was once a Songster here at Chatham. Joyce was recently ‘Promoted to Glory’ and a service of thanksgiving was held at Southport Corps on Sunday 28 September.

The following is an extract from the tribute printed in the Order of Service for that meeting:

……After leaving school she worked as a seamstress. In her early twenties she qualified as a children’s worker and eventually became a matron of a children’s home. There came a time when she felt that she would like to change her career so she joined the Post Office and worked in the Telephone Exchange where she rose to the position of Supervisor. All through her working life she gave what time her shift work allowed to the Songsters at Chatham……………
