The Seeds of Exclusion
In July of this year The Salvation Army published a report with the above title. This report was circulated to Corps Officers and the wish was expressed that it should be available to all Salvationists.
In his letter to the Officers, Lt. Col. William Cochrane, Chief Secretary, said:
I am sending you a personal copy of the report which not only contains the fruit of significant academic research into the root causes of homelessness but also outlines ways in which The Salvation Army is already responding to the plight of a broken society. Our partnership with the University of Kent and Cardiff University adds quality and depth to our understanding of social exclusion and its root causes.
We are anxious that, as far as possible, every Salvationist has the opportunity to access the Report. As of Tuesday it will be available on the UKT website: www.salvationarrny.org.uk. (enter report title in search box) We are also planning to have some resources available for use by DHQ, corps and centres. Please feel free to download and copy, and also to publicise the website address.
The Seeds of Exclusion is a significant contribution to public knowledge on the subject of homelessness. The Salvation Army will build on this knowledge so that we can better serve homeless people and the wider community through our corps, social and community services, through advocacy for disadvantaged people and by raising our voice in the public square.
