Mission to Serbia

We apologise for the lateness of this report from Mike Rowley about Blythswood Care’s recent trip to Serbia which took place back in May.

An aid lorry leaves the warehouse in Rochester

Mike, who is a member of our Corps, writes:

The team went to Serbia at the beginning of May to distribute medical equipment, sent from Ballyclare (N.I.) Glasgow and Medway depots, to hospitals and to list further needs (wish lists).

The hospital at Jagodina received eighty eight hydraulic beds but could use another 200. Their annual budget for equipment is only Euros 10,000. Relating this to their needs, a machine required by the Midwives costs Euros 30,000. However, the staff and facilities are good.  The Wheelchair Foundation in America arranged for 280 wheelchairs to be sent from China, funded by a Rotary Club in Devon. These were prepared by the team and distributed to various locations where they were much appreciated. Below are pictures showing the wheelchairs and beds.

Blythswood Care is a Christian charity with the staff and volunteers coming from different denominations. On every visit made to Serbia by the team, time is spent with Pastor Dragisha who is secretary to the Serbian Baptist Church. Pastor Dragisha looks after the charity, ‘Love Your Neighbour’ which is supported by Blythswood. A special visit is to be made in September, this year, by a four man team to support the Pastor and his colleagues in their work. The mission statement of Chatham Salvation Army is ‘bringing Christ to people and people to Christ’ and that is also the aim of Blythswood Care through aid and the word of God.

We thank Mike, who is now restricted in his ability to work with Blythswood by failing eyesight, for this report and pray God’s blessing on the work the charity continues to do.
