Congratulations from the UK
We have received a comment from a Lewisham Salvationist (Ron Corley) regarding Wellington Citadel’s 125th anniversary. As this refers to an old post, now archived, we provide the link here for those interested in reading it. Click here
Ron Chorley is almost entirely correct – in fact the actual 125th anniversary of the opening of the Wellington Citadel Corps falls in June, but we’re taking advantage of a long weekend at the end of May to celebrate it with a reunion of former soldiers and friends (these terms not mutually exclusive). For those who take an interest in this kind of thing, the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory is celebrating 125 years of SA work in 2008 – it started in Dunedin and was marked in typical Army style with a Congress, which for Anne and I was an excuse to visit our daughter Laurelle (your webmaster’s granddaughter) who is in her second year at University there. General Shaw Clifton (a former Territorial Commander in NZ and, with Commissioner Helen and son John, former soldiers of Wellington City) was scheduled to lead the Congress but his illness gave an opportunity for us to share with Commissioner Christine McMillan, the Army’s International Director for Social Justice, who is based in New York. The first ten corps in NZ all mark their 125th birthdays this year. I know that still means we’re spring chickens compared to Chatham, but it’s a big deal here.
We’d love people at Chatham and around the world to pray for the Wellington City Corps and the NZF&T Territory as we celebrate the past 125 years and look forward to the next 125 (and more).
