A Bright evening for the Band

A distinguished guest for Band practice recently was Dudley Bright from Regent Hall corps whose ‘day job’ is Principal Trombone of the world famous London Symphony Orchestra.

Finding a gap in his busy work schedule he came to conduct the rehearsal and lead the ‘spirituals’. (For the benefit of those not familiar with Salvation Army procedures, every rehearsal includes a time of spiritual devotion aimed at keeping the group focused on its christian message and purpose)

Dudley’s friendly and ‘down-to-earth’ approach endeared himself to the band as the first items for examination were the Hymn Tunes ‘Armageddon‘ and ‘Chalvey‘ before proceeding with his newer composition – ‘Paean’, a challenge enjoyed by the bandsmen. The music was interspersed with scriptural thoughts by Dudley, before a close inspection of “Greatest of These” composed especially for his brother Julian’s wedding.

The Band counts itself privileged to be able to benefit, from time to time, from the skills of Christian professional musicians in this manner and would wish to express its gratitude to Dudley for an excellent evening’s work.
