Monday Spot (15 October 2007)
This was another eventful week-end in the life of Chatham Citadel Corps. But then every week-end has something special about it. This time it was the turn of our youngsters to feature. It was their prizegiving.
For those who don’t know, or have forgotten, we use the expression KAOS to mean ‘Kids Alive On Sunday’. It also describes our Sunday School in what some might think a rather apt way. To use the catchphrase from TV’s ‘House of Cards’ you might think so but we couldn’t possibly comment’. Whatever the situation, Tracy, our KAOS leader, does a great job and its good to see so many young people joining us for worship each Sunday. In a week when British TV has again been slating some young people for the standards they keep we can justly say we are proud of ours!
Tracy led our morning meeting during which prizes were distributed to the children for their attendance at KAOS during the past year. Tracy used songs 362, 64 and 1419 from Songs of Fellowship and 400 from The Salvation Army Song Book to support her theme of ‘light’. The Singing Company sang ‘Your Grand Design’ and the Young People’s Band played ‘Powerful and Free’. Musical contributions were also received from the Band (El es el Senor) and the Songsters (You are the Light). Basing her talk on Matthew 5: 14-16 Tracy spoke about John the Baptist and said John was not the greatest but he was content to do a specific task. He was content to tell people about Jesus. We may not ever be the greatest but we can tell people about Christ.
Also featured during the meeting were Rachel Abbott being commissioned to the Band and Martin Castle being recognised as an adherent.
Here are some pictures taken during the meeting.
The Mike Woodhouse Award (best attendance)
In the evening Major Kathy was our leader and she chose songs 156, 640, 329 and 283 from The Salvation Army Song Book together with 441, 1113 and 1015 from Songs of Fellowship. The Band and Songsters both brought musical contributions which were ‘Love so Amazing’ by the Band and ‘Love Divine’ by the Songsters. A dramatic sketch was performed on the subject of the ‘Rich Young Man’ and the bible portion used as the basis of the message was Mark 10:17-31.
In her address Kathy said it was difficult for the rich young man to understand what Jesus was saying about sacrifice. Salvation is not about what we have done for Christ but all about what He has done for us. We need to respond to what God has done on our behalf. We must say ‘yes’ to Him and ‘no’ to our own ambitions. The rich young man in the bible stopry could not do this. Can you?
Well, another good day! Is this place alive or what? Join us again next week to read about a wedding and a dedication (christeneing). We hope to have some great pictures so don’t miss out.
