Fairfield Involvement
Chatham Corps has a big involvement in the RSA 85 celebration to be held at The Fairfield Halls, Croydon, on 22 September. No less than 7 members of the corps will be participating.
Lt Cols Joy & Ray Steadman- Allen
Ray’s work as a Salvationist composer is being recognised in a concert in which the International Staff Band and International Staff Songsters will be joined by special guests Bramwell Tovey (piano), Susan Turner (vocal) and Derick Kane (euphonium).
Those participating from Chatham are Carolynn Woodman, Rachel Horwood and Rosemary Steadman-Allen (all with the International Staff Songsters) and Carl Woodman (International Staff Band).
L to R: Carolynn, Rachel, Rosemary and Carl
Included in the programme will be the trombone feature ‘Wonders begin when the Lord comes in’ arranged by Ray from The Salvation Army musical ‘Take Over Bid’. This will be performed by the trombone sections from Kettering (where Ray was a soldier), Enfield (Bandmaster when Tottenham Citadel), Hendon (Songster Leader) and, of course, Chatham (his current corps). Below is a picture of the Chatham trombones taken with the cross in the background reminding us of the place where the ‘wonders’ really began.
L to R: Nigel Lockwood, David Lockwood and Graham Hatton
Chatham Corps would like to add its recognition of the work Ray has undertaken for The Salvation Army’s musical ministry in both the composing and administrative environments. We would also thank him for his contribution to our corps life and in particular his support of the numerous new Christians it has been our privilege to enrol during the last few years.
Tickets for the concert are still available (£18 and £15) by phoning 020 8688 9291. Alternatively click here to order on line.
