Chain of Office
The Mayor of Medway, Councillor Val Goulden, visited our Cameo Club yesterday
The Cameo Club members, about 30 of them, listened with interest as Mayor Val spoke about the office of Mayor, its procedures and responsibilities. She also described the Mayoral Chain, of particular interest due to the amalgamation of the three boroughs of Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham together with the District Council of Strood to form the Unitary Authority of Medway back in 1997. The chain now has components from each of the previous chains and represents many of the historical aspects of the Medway Towns. The photos show the club members with the Mayor and the chain being shown to members by the Mayor’s Officer.
Mayor Goulden has a number of charities which she is supporting during her year in office amongst which is ‘Medway Older People’s Partnership’. At the beginning of the year she is quoted as saying āIām very much looking forward to the year ahead. I expect it to be hard work but very enjoyable and worthwhile. I hope to raise the profile of local charities and to champion the cause of older people and ethnic minority groups in particular.ā
Cameo Club wishes to express its thanks for the time spent by Mayor Val Goulden in visiting the Club and for the informative talk.
