Monday Spot (20 August 2007)

We begin this week with congratulations to our three young people who received A level and AS level examination results last Thursday. We expect more results during the coming week (GCSEs) and we will bring you news of those in due course.

We understand that all of the young people obtained the grades necessary to ensure the next stage of their education. Cat is planning a gap year working for The Salvation Army in Manchester, Louise will be studying law at the University of Buckinghamshire and Emma has a further year at school before deciding on her future studies. Why not join with our congratulations by using the comments box below.

Kathy 002 (Small)2.jpg Major Kathy

Major Kathy has returned from a week’s holiday and was leading our meeting yesterday morning. Taking ‘Working Together’ as her theme she chose songs 206, 688, 858 and 707 from The Salvation Army Song Book and 955, 111 and 646 from Songs of Fellowship. The Singing Company was not able to participate so the Songsters sang twice, bringing us ‘You are the Light’ and ‘Vesper’. There are still many people away on holiday and once again former songsters and friends joined with the ‘regulars’ to provide this ministry. Kathy’s choice of scripture was 1 Corinthians 12 and in her message, she said everyone has a part to play in the Christian church. We need to learn how to live and work in harmony. We are not to get ‘hung up’ about individual gifts as they are all equal in importance. They are not symbols of spiritual power and we must not use our gifts to manipulate others to our point of view. We need to work together as a team to support each other and to care for each other more. God’s work is never about status. It is about Him and what His people can achieve by working together.

Our evening activity was in the form of a BBQ (yes, despite the weather).

Good fellowship was enjoyed and the food wasn’t bad either! Burgers and sausages were in abundance (with onions of course) and about 30 people attended. This is the second year that we have enjoyed this type of fellowship during the summer holiday season and it is an opportunity to invite different people to join with us.

Next Sunday is the last before things begin to get back to normal and we would remind all local worshippers that there will be only one meeting (in the morning). If you have had your holiday break we hope you enjoyed it and if you are still to go, have a great time. See you next week.
