Fire Engines for Serbia
Mike Rowley has been on his travels again, this time taking fire engines to Serbia as part of his involvement with Blythswood Care.
Mike has sent us this report:
On Sunday May 6th 2007, Three fire engines arrived in Serbia at the small town of Bajina Basta. They heralded the culmination of two years work by a Scottish charity, run by ex-fire fighters and Blythswood Care. St. George is also the Patron Saint of Serbian fire fighters and by coincidence, it was being celebrated on the same day that the engines arrived.
There was much jubilation as these appliances, although refurbished, are the most modern units in Serbia. Until now, the Serbian fire fighters, who will man these units, have not had Road Traffic Accident/Trauma equipment, or, in fact, any of the modern equipment carried in these appliances, until now. They will now be able to rescue people trapped in vehicles much easier and quicker and be able to make the injured save for transportation to hospital.
Other assets are the 45ft. ladders carried by the engines. Two vehicles will stay at Bajina Basta, the other will go to Kraljevo. More lives will now be saved which is the aim of all fire fighters the world over. The pictures show the three fire appliances outside the fire station in Bajina Basta. Also pictures of the handing over ceremony and people inspecting the engines.
We thank Mike for taking the time to send us this report and wish him well in his continued work with Blythswood Care
