Join in and Sing
The Songsters recently invited former songsters and other members of the corps to an open rehearsal where people could join in and sing with the group.
A number of well known pieces were sung and the group seemed to weld together very well.
After refreshments (a vital part of the evening - congratulations to whoever provided the cheese scones!) a spiritual time was led by Salvationist poet and author Peter Cooke.
Under the heading of ‘The Music’s in His Hands’, Peter used a number of his own works in a formal act of worship and was helped by Rosemary Steadman-Allen with readings. Lt-Col. Ray Steadman-Allen, who has often added musical settings to Peter’s words, assisted on the piano and the evening was concluded with the singing of a ‘Cooke/RSA’ song ‘Vespers’ which is currently in the Brigade’s repertoire.
