Looking forward to Easter

PRELIMINARY NOTICE

Streets-Both-blue (Small).JPG Commissioners Robert & Janet Street

Commissioners Robert & Janet Street will be leading our meetings on Good Friday and Easter Sunday (6 and 8 April). Here is a short biography.

Commissioners Robert (Bob) and Janet Street have been officers since 1969 and are currently appointed to International Headquarters where Bob is the International Secretary to the Chief of the Staff , and Janet is World Secretary for Women’s Ministries.

Married since 1967, and commissioned in 1969, Janet and Bob have enjoyed a variety of appointments together. In addition to corps appointments, twelve years were spent in editorial work on IHQ where Bob served as Editor of The War Cry and later, Editor in Chief. During some of this time, Janet was a corps officer and later served as part of the editorial team. Six years as divisional leaders, five years at the William Booth Training college (Bob as Principal and Janet as Communications Director and tutor) and four years in the Australia Eastern territory (Bob as Chief Secretary and Janet as Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries) completes the picture.

A highlight of Bob’s officership was chairing the International Spiritual Life Commission, a body charged with examining and reviewing the heart of the Army’s spiritual life. It met five times (for a week at a time) over a period of 18 months. He then presented its findings to the International Conference of Leaders in Melbourne, in March 1998. Bob – who has seen the Army at work in 30 countries – subsequently wrote Called to be God’s People, which highlights the Commissions findings. The book has been translated into a number of languages, as have two further popular books, Servant Leadership and Holiness Unwrapped. DVD’s and video’s have been produced to accompany these publications.

Bob and Janet have both (at different times) served on the International Moral and Social Issues Council, with Janet being a founder member.

Bob and Janet have three children: Nicola, Mark and Tony. All three are Salvationists, as are their spouses. They have seven grandchildren soon to be eight – who are very glad to have their Grandad and Grandma back in England. Janet is currently World Secretary for Women’s Ministries, IHQ.

Put the date in your diary. It should be a great week-end
