Monday Spot (12 February 2007)
What’s all this talk about global warming? There was no sign of it last Thursday morning when we awoke to a carpet of pure white snow.
As is often the case in England the temperature rose above freezing during the day and the snow had begun to melt by evening. By the week-end it had completely gone which was good news for members of our youth group who, on Saturday, travelled to Watford for the Territorial Youth Rally. We hope to bring you a report on that some time this week so watch this space.
On Sunday morning our meeting was led by Major Drew who continued our ‘reversal of values’ theme on the subject of ‘last is first’. The meeting was attended by a number of visitors including Rev. Rob and Judith Tann from the Unity Hill Ministry Centre, Port Lincoln, South Australia who are in Britain visiting family. Judith is the eldest daughter of a former Chatham Salvationists, Eric and Muriel Fisher. Eric who was recently promoted to glory in Australia.
The meeting included the enrolment of two new Junior Soldiers and four young people were presented with their Junior Soldier’s Silver Award.
The Singing Company conributed ‘Golden Day’ and the Songsters ‘I will sing your Praises’.
Major Drew based his message on Luke 14:15-24 and included songs 365 and 22 from the Salvation Army Song Book and 1013, 441, 742 and 895 from Songs of Fellowship. He said ‘We will be dealt with by God in spite of what we deserve, not because of it. No matter what our station in life, we are all seeking the same Saviour. Our only ticket to the banquet (see scripture reading) is our acceptance of His grace. The Kingdom of God is a party and all are invited’. Five seekers knelt at the Mercy Seat in rededication.

Our evening meeting was led by Major Beverley who opened with her favourite bible passage (Philippians 2:5-11) and followed it with song 141 from The Salvation Army Song Book. Other songs used included 576 and 452 from the SA Song Book and 299 and 120 from Songs of Fellowship. Looking forward to the Self Denial missionary appeal in a few weeks time she introduced a period of intercession when the congregation was asked to voice prayers for any one known to be in need. Some 50 slips of paper had been placed on the Mercy Seat bearing the names of Salvationists serving overseas. Members of the congregation were asked to take one and promise to pray for the person named during the appeal season.
The Band contributed ‘The Greatest of These’ featuring the words of song 530 (SA Song Book) and the Songsters brought ‘People need the Lord’
In her message, based on Romans 12:1-10, Major Beverley said ‘the believer needs to be transformed. The real test of Christian faith is what is seen in the transformation of human life. Becoming a Christian is the easy part. Living our lives as God wants us to is rather more difficult. Honour one another above yourself’.
Well, we had a good day. We hope you have a good week.
