Significant in our Community

Following on from this week’s Monday Spot, when we stressed our desire to be ‘more significant in our community’ we would like to tell you about a new phase in the life of Medway Maritime Hospital.

Adrian Horwood, our Songster Leader, writes as follows:

In 2007 the hospital will be applying for Foundation Trust status, on the recommendation of the Strategic Health Authority covering this area. This will mean significant changes in the way the hospital makes decisions about the way it operates, as it will be held accountable to the local community rather than the Government’s Department of Health. It will still be part of the National Health Service but will be ‘governed’ locally.

People who live in Kent, and particularly those in Medway, are therefore now entitled to be ‘members’ of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust and by doing so will be kept informed about any changes that are being considered and will be able to express their views directly to hospital management through a group of Governors.

As someone involved in both the Hospital and The Salvation Army, I believe this gives us an opportunity to be involved in local issues. That involvement may be as little as receiving a newsletter or could involve getting more involved, for example in giving feedback on developments in the hospital or getting involved in it’s committees.

I would like to encourage membership of this important part of our community.
