Our meeting on Sunday morning took the theme of the parable of ‘the speck and the plank’ as recorded in Luke 6:39-42. Major Beverley introduced a number of scripture verses referring to God’s love and songs included 319, 44 and 438 from The Salvation Army song book together with 168 and 895 from Songs of Fellowship.

Reference was made to one of the aims for 2007 identified in our Vision Day meetings last week-end, namely to ‘become more significant to our community’. In this connection Adrian Horwood spoke about his role as a non-executive director with the Medway NHS Trust (Medway Maritime Hospital) and will be contributing further on this subject later in the week.

Also in this meeting Claire Anderson was ‘commissioned’ as our Corps Youth Secretary. Although Claire has been carrying out these duties for some time it is only now possible to confirm her appointment due to the necessary security checks that have to be made to ensure a person’s suitability for work with young people.

Musical contributions to the meeting were made by both Singing Company and Songsters and Major Beverley preached on the question ‘what do you see?’ She said that ‘ interest in Jesus is very marked but many people are disenchanted with the church. We all love to think we are better than other men and women (speck and plank) but God loves sinners. Jesus is not in the business of condemnation. he accepts us as we are’. She concluded with the prayer ‘Lord may we all know your grace’.

‘Resolutions for the church - Do not conform’ was the title of our evening meeting led by Major Drew. Using Romans 12:1-2 he questioned the choices we make and the way we think. Do we focus on the negative or the positive? Do not conform (negative), be transformed (positive). We should live transformed lives, love God, love people and the world will take notice.

Songs used in support of the message included 7, 64 and 444 from The Salvation Army song book and 1113, 1109 and 1346 from Songs of Fellowship.

Three voluntary testimonies were given, the songsters contributed ‘Powerful People’ and the Band brought ‘Divine Communion’ featuring as it does the chorus ‘All there is of me, Lord’. What a challenge for us all.

All there is of me! And you?
