Holy Moses
No, that’s not an expletive. It’s the title of one of the King’s Singers early LP recordings released in 1972. On the front side of the album was something called ‘Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo’. Anyone remember it?
Carl Woodman, our corps Bandmaster and Head of Sales and Marketing at Salvationist Publishing and Supplies Ltd supplied me with some CDs of the King’s Singers this week. Nearly forty years after ‘Moses’ they are still recording music with a religious theme, this time for The Salvation Army.
Salvationists will have seen this recording advertised for some weeks in Salvationist and other places, and now that it has been released, they will not be dissappointed! Neither will you. The writer was a relatively young man when the King’s Singers were founded and they soon became a great favourite, and still are today despite changes in personel over almost forty years. This is a great addition to the Army’s recording library.
Songster Brigades can learn much from the outstanding vocal technique and interpretative skill, but much more importantly, can understand more fully the God about which these songs were written. Some may think them dated. Not a bit of it, quality music is ageless!
We would like to congratulate Trevor Caffull, Executive Producer of this recording, and all those involved for having the vision for such a masterpiece. Well done SP&S!
With Trevor’s permission we have included some of the sleeve notes in our Features pages. Click here to read how the recording was conceived.
