Monday Spot (30 October 2006)

We have had an interesting contact this week and, as a result, we feel we have been able to ‘make a difference’ to a grandson living in Australia.

We received an email from Mark, who is trying to trace information about his grandfather, George, who may have been a member of Chatham Salvation Army Band prior to his death in 1914. Did we have any records which would help to confirm this? Wow, what a request!

Well, we have started some enquiries but, to be honest, we are very doubtfull whether we will be able to come up with anything. However, we were sent some addresses where the family lived, both before and afetr George’s death, and we have been able to send pictures of those locations out to Australia. We believe we have been able to ‘make a difference’ to that particular family as they try to trace information about grandad. More importantly we believe we can ‘make a difference’ to those seeking information about their ‘heavenly father’ and that is why our corps mission statement is that we want to ‘Bring Christ to people and people to Christ’

After three consecutive weeks with a ‘special’ interest (Kettering Songsters, Scouter’s Fellowship and KAOS prizegiving) we had what you might call an ordinary Sunday this week. So, back to our theme of the ten commandments and we have reached No 8 – no stealing. Major Kathy led our morning meeting and began with Song No 17 (SA Song Book) and No 124 (Songs of Fellowship). Singing Company and Songsters (‘On this Rock’ and ‘Healing Christ’ respectively) brought beautiful singing despite a number being absent due to the schools half term break.

Using Acts 4:32-5:11 as her scripture Major Kathy spoke about the unambiguous nature of this commandment ‘Thou shalt not steal’ and how God dealt severely with Ananias and Sapphira for their dishonesty. Song No 409 followed and we concluded the meeting with Song No 9 (both from the SA Song Book)

In the evening our subject was ‘Wise or foolish builders’. We began with Song No 157 (SA Song Book) coupled with Psalm 18:1-3;30-31;46 (God the Rock). Major Kathy exhorted us to ensure good foundations for our lives using Matthew 7:24-27 as her reading. Other songs used were No 935 and 1346 (Songs of Fellowship) and Songs 280 and 745 (SA Song Book).

Having a well founded faith will ‘make a difference’ to our lives. If you think we can do the same for yours please contact us
