Meals were provided on Saturday and Sunday by local scouts and their leaders. On Saturday evening a presentation was made by the UK International Development Department indicating The Salvation Army’s policy on Human Trafficking.
On Sunday morning our worship was led by Group Scout Leader Graham Phillips of Chatham and included a Church Parade and presentation of the flags of the 4th Medway Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and the 7th Chatham Brownies and Guides. A ‘Call to Worship’ was to be found in Psalm 150 and Major Ruth Clarke (Territorial Guide Adviser) introduced a special time for Young People.

Singing & Not Singing
Using scripture from Luke 9:23-27 and 57-62 Graham spoke about ‘Following Jesus and Taking a Stand’ and said ‘those who stand for nothing will fall for anything’. Songs from The Salvation Army Song Book included Nos 17, 707 and 687 which concluded our meeting using the words ‘In the Army of Jesus we’ve taken our stand’
Talking of taking a stand, a ‘Safe and Sound’ course was held in the afternoon. This is a course designed by The Salvation Army to promote the awareness of child protection issues within our corps environment and is now obligatory for all who work with young people. With so many youngsters being part of our activities this is a necessity within our corps family and is taken very seriously. The course was presented by Tracy Wood (KAOS Leader).
Our evening meeting was led by Major Drew who used scripture from Ephesians 1:17-20 and Acts 19:1-10 on which to base his theme, Paul’s evangelism in Ephesus. We began with song No 405 from The Salvation Army Song Book coupled with No 935 from Songs of Fellowship. A number of testimonies were a feature and Major Drew spoke about how we must re-empower evangelism. He said ‘We, as The Salvation Army, if we are to preach the gospel, need to revisit the secular places. We must make the gospel accessible by measured presentation of it in the power of the Holy Spirit’. During the singing of ‘Rescue the perishing’ (SA 691) the mercy seat was lined from end to end by people seeking the Saviour.
A very special day!
