Some weeks ago we gave some information about the Watershed project and are pleased to reprint it here:-

Over 1 billion people worldwide live without access to safe drinking water and one child dies every 15 seconds from diseases caused by lack of clean water.

We know that, on average, it costs £10 to provide a family with water for life and so, across the globe, through The Salvation Army’s Watershed programme, we are helping to provide wells, rainwater collection points, water storage, standpipes and water tankers. These are vital, otherwise local residents are dependent on water sources which may be contaminated, leading to disease.

The Salvation Army is working with local people to dig wells and drill boreholes. Each water source will operate from a hand pump which will allow local people to maintain the equipment and ensure that water keeps flowing.

A number of Corps have commited themselves to this scheme and have accepted responsibilty for financing an individual small project to the cost of £3000. Chatham is one of these Corps and we have been allocated Moxico Province, Angola, West Africa.(We acknowledge The Salvation Army’s International Development UK Leaflet ‘Watershed’ for the above information)

So, if you would like to help us provide this resource to our Angolan friends, and support our Young Searchers group we would be pleased to see you at the concert which starts at 7.00pm. The price of admission is £3.00 and the proceeds will go directly to the Watershed project. An auction will also be held.

Your contribution will be gratefully received. Remember, just £10 provides a family with clean water FOR LIFE.
