Monday Spot (28 August 2006)

This week it has been good to meet up again with old friends and former members of our Corps, Jim and Marion Black.

Jim was our Songster Leader during the early 1970s and emigrated to the USA to further his career in 1976. Since living ‘stateside’ Jim has held a number of local officer positions which have included Songster Leader at Dallas Temple, Oakland Citadel and Concord. He is currently Bandmaster at Concord, leads a bible study group and runs his corps website. Anyone wishing to extend greetings to Jim & Marion is welcome to do so through this website.

Jim’s great hobby is flying and he owns his own light plane. During the few days spent in Kent he has visited the old Battle of Britain airfield at Biggin Hill and the photos show him with a model of a Spitfire and in the RAF chapel.

This week-end is the last public holiday before Christmas and for this reason many have taken the opportunity for a final break. Next week schools are back for the autumn term and parents will be greatly relieved. We, therefore, only held one meeting (morning) on Sunday.

The meeting took the theme ‘Follow Me’ and was based around scripture from Mark 6:1-13. A clip was shown from the movie ‘Chicken Little’ and the message spoke about what God expects from us as disciples. We are charged to ‘Go and make disciples of all nations……’. No exceptions, God needs us, and will work through us to bring about His kingdom. We may be ‘sometimes scared….’ but ‘…..let’s realise we’ve got God on our side, and He can do absolutely anything’.

Songs included were Nos. 700, 706, 680 & 64 from The Salvation Army Song Book and 544 & 480 from Songs of Fellowship
