Monday Spot (19 June 2006)

The ministry at our Corps this week-end has been under the leadership of the Croydon Citadel Songsters. A festival (concert) was given on Saturday evening and our Sunday meetings were also led by the group.

The Saturday evening concert was on the theme of a church being ‘Purpose Driven’ and was divided into sections reflecting various aspects of ‘Purpose’. The worship section included ‘Worship the Lord’, ‘The Quiet Heart’ and ‘Praise the Lord’. Fellowship included a number of soloists and contributions from the congregation and the Chatham Band.

After an interval, when we were invited to join in fellowship together, we continued through Ministry and Mission, both sections featuring music to sustain the theme, concluding with ‘Carry the Light’. The evening was well planned and suited our Corps situation admirably as regular readers of this site will know that we are a ‘purpose driven’ Corps, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct all that we seek to do.

These pictures show Songster Leader Mark Ingram conducting the Songsters in ‘Praise the Lord’ and part of the ladies section giving him their full attention.

On Sunday the Songsters developed the theme of ‘Father’s Day’ teaching us about the relationship we can all have with our Heavenly Father. Our own Singing Company contributed to the morning meeting and our Junior Band to the afternoon. The Chatham Songsters contributed ‘Church on Fire’, also in the afternoon meeting.

The photographs below show the 2nd cornet section of our Young People’s Band and two representative fathers, Songster Leader Mark Ingram of Croydon with his son Matthew (16 years) and Bandmaster Carl Woodman of Chatham with Isaac (3 weeks).

It is not possible to print all that was said over the week-end so here is a thought to ponder. A well known, worldwide, Christian organisation for men has said ‘most men have unresolved issues with their fathers’. It could also be said that most people have unresolved issues with their Heavenly Father. We want to leave you with this message (on a hand out bookmark given to us on Sunday morning). ‘We celebrate a loving God as our Father. May your knowledge of Him come with special blessing today’.
