Monday Spot (5 June 2006)

This week, our first, ‘Monday Spot’ features three highlights from our week-end activities, Pentecost worship, Rod’s first day in Army uniform and a ‘Soup & Roll’ lunch organised by the Youth Group

Pentecost Worship. What a morning meeting we had, celebrating the birth of the Christian Church all those years ago! Led by Major Beverley it was a real party.

Being a birthday party it was fitting that we should have a cake (very small) with candles. The congregation enjoyed doughnuts and brownies and the children were invited to make windmills and wave them to the sounds of ‘Come on and Celebrate’. It was noisy, cheerful and a real celebration of the Holy Spirit’s coming. Major Beverley preached on Fire as a symbol the power of the Spirit. We concluded with the singing of those words of William Booth, ‘Look down and see this waiting host,
give us the promised Holy Ghost, we want another Pentecost, send the Fire’ followed by the encouraging words containing the promise ‘For I’m building a people of Power’.

We were delighted to see Rod Tranah wearing his Salvation Army uniform for the first time this week-end. We congratulate him on taking yet another step along the Christian pathway and wish him well as he makes further witness to his faith in this way. Rod, who is a motor cycle fanatic, is pictured below with Major Drew. Rod also testified in the evening meeting and spoke of how God has made it possible for him to purchase uniform, something which he never thought he would be able to do.

Finally, at lunchtime, our Youth Group organised a simple ‘Soup & Roll’ meal in order to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s Chikankata complex in Zambia. This complex includes a hospital, health care services and a school. It was good to see the youngsters working together to achieve this goal and we were delighted to hear that they raised approximately £300 by their efforts. Well done.
